All eyes on Santa

All eyes were on Santa as the jolly fellow in red made his way to the Dunnellon Library last December. The room was packed with children and parents who came to hear 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' and were surprised to find that Santa himself came to read the beloved story. Apparently Santa is a member of the Dunnellon Library and had stopped by to return a book he had borrowed. Librarian Miss Marcelli and Santa kicked off the holiday season for the youngsters and their parents. From the expressions on the faces of both the children and the parents, the day was a huge success.

Thing #4- RSS and News Feeds
This one frustrated me for several days till I received some advice from MM. Now I think I have completed the task, but will seek confirmation before patting myself on the back. I believe I have signed up for Yahoo! News: U.S. News; Yahoo! News: Most Recommended; Library of Congress: New on the Web and the Library of Congress Blog. I also added my fellow Dunn bloggers. My question is that I had assumed they would each show up on my blog, but seem to be accessed from the 'dashboard'. I'll double check with opthers and see if I'm on the right track. It appears to be SOOOO much information and so little time.
Thing#4- revised... After getting input from SS I was able to transfer my RSS feeds to my blog from my dashboard. Added some and deleted others. Think I'm ready for Thing #5.

Thing #3- Blog search tools
I had some trouble with this 'thing'. I wasn't able to get on the google site blogsearch.com or searchtool.livejournal. The dreaded "internet explorer cannot open...yada yada yada" message kept appearing. I did find two I liked.

Not your grandmother's library anymore

Thing #2- Checking out Library 2.0 & Web 2.0
After listening to Stephen Abram and reading information on Library 2.0 and Web 2.0, it is clear that we are no longer dealing with my Aunt Irene's (she was a librarian from 1935-1966) library. The need for libraries to change with the times will become all the more important as new technologies continue to shape the way we learn, work and live. I found most interesting the ideas of providing information to and for the public where and when they need it, outside the brick and morter building we think of as the "library". I love the idea of merging the information we currently have so as not to continually "reinvent the wheel" and to make that information readily available to everyone. I wasn't eager to spend MLK day stepping into Thing 2...but found it made me think of my profession in a new light.

Thing #1- setting up your blog
So far so good. Let's hope I'm doing this correctly and the blog actually shows up. This is all pretty new to me, but not too difficult yet.
